Maybe apartheid wasn't a good system to live under but I have to admit that during those times, South Africa was better off as a First World country with a superb industrial and technology base. They even have an excellent jet fighter, the Cheetah, that could even rival the F-15 and perhaps even give the F-22 a run for its money. They also had a good electronics industry, they made one shortwave radio prized by collectors called the XCR-30 that used the Wadley loop to stabilized frequency control where you have precise, almost digital-like tuning using two frequency drums. I knew two co-workers of my mother who worked at a South African nuclear reactor in the 1980's and they told me the MSM, as bad as apartheid was, really blew things out of proportion.
I feel sorry for those Whites who are left there and suffering. Sometimes wish I could go out in the desert or wilderness somewhere and start my own town, have my own police and defense force, radio and TV station and so on. i'd invite those who would wish to com to live there.

South African companies also did leading-edge work in IP encryption. In my former community in The States we had a number of South Africans whom had relocated. As one of them said to me ten years ago, there’s no future for white people in SA.

I’ve heard the joke:
What did people in Zimbabwe use to light their home before candles and Mugabe?
Electricity
Europeans did build infrastructure
