WASHINGTON (AP) Congress approved sweeping changes Tuesday to surveillance laws enacted after the Sept. 11 attacks, eliminating the National Security Agency's disputed bulk phone-records collection program and replacing it with a more restrictive measure to keep the records in phone companies' hands.
Two days after Congress let the phone-records and several other anti-terror programs expire, the Senate's 67-32 vote sent the legislation to President Barack Obama, who planned to sign it promptly.
The legislation will revive most of the programs the Senate had allowed to lapse in a dizzying collision of presidential politics and national security policy. But the authorization will undergo major changes, the legacy of agency contractor Edward Snowden's explosive revelations two years ago about domestic spying by the government.

? How will this one play out ?
I mean veto for sure, but what spin.
Bullshit! Not one iota will change. It will be used against Conservatives, Legitimate gun owners, Christians, Tea Party members, Second Amendment advocates, and their political opponents, but not one muslim group. Anyone that believes that it will be used to enhance the security of the United States of America is only deluding themselves.
And therein lies the rub. The law now burdens the phone companies with keeping all of this stuff and making it available to Big Brother on request. That should have been scrapped too. Now everybody's phone bills will be spiking to pay for the storage.
What we need now is a criminal law passed for people that abuse it for any use other than terrorism. Wanna use it for personal, financial or political reasons? Get life in prison without parole! Mandatory minimum sentences. And have it audited by an independent agency every 6 months.
Whom is the convict that first said “No, we don’t collect ANY data”. Then, shortly later, “Well, we collect XYZ”...which become “Oh, we gather it from everyone”
Oh, that’s right, not a ONE has been fined, fired or jailed.
Tell me again what happens when biz ACCIDENTALLY divolge medical/tax records? Where’s Mrs. Lerner these days? Ellijah Cummings?
etc. etc. etc.
Yeah, let’s ‘trust’ govt.
The Senate vote of 67 to 32. King Obama may try veto but back to the Senate and it is law.
Oh, that is so SWEET.
But ... wait ...
There are repub-rinos involved. Will they hold true to original vote? Only time will tell. Wait for Chapter 2 ... Ooooo!
