To force the big gathering of GOP poliitcos running for the White House to see who will be the first one(s) to promise the demolishing of the NSA.

Oh sure, once the Republicans take control of both houses, things will be different.

And they won’t be no matter what is passed. After all, we find out today that the FBI has been spying from planes for years and deliberately hiding it.

They have proven themselves worse and more Authoritarian than Leftist Democrats who are economic idiots, but oppose this. So glad I have left this evil party.

the surveillance isn’t for national security. that’s just a joke. if they were truly concerned about it... they would’ve stopped the millions of illegals that flow over the border daily.

the purpose of the surveillance is ... politics. they’re monitoring the public and taking notes.

why? who knows. i can guarantee it’s nothing good... otherwise, they’d be open about it

“Sometimes I believe I hate the GOP more than the Dems.”

For passing legislation to rein in Obama’s illegal spying?

Imagine if we truly had a Tea-Party anti-Globalist GOP.

At this point, it's not about the good of the country. It's about McConnell saving face and reasserting control lest he lose influence altogether.

“To force the big gathering of GOP poliitcos running for the White House to see who will be the first one(s) to promise the demolishing of the NSA.”

Having worked closely with the NSA in the past, I would rather have them than not. Besides, if they were “dismantled” they would merely change their name and go under cover.

The NSA works worldwide to gather intelligence, and are the only ones who really know what’s going on in the world. Through the CIA and other operatives there is not much happening of which they aren’t aware, though it may not appear so at times. They gather the intelligence in a central clearing area in Fort Meade, sort it into priorities, and pass some of it along to those who are capable of making security and military decisions accordingly. The president and the politicians are given only what is deemed necessary, and that usually is not much.

I’m not a big fan of the CIA, but there thousands of military and foreign civilian operatives doing an amazing job keeping their eyes on the world. Without them, we would be blind and even more vulnerable than now. I don’t particularly like the spying on American citizens, but even that has become necessary. Unfortunately, there are thousands of miscreants within our borders who would do us harm, many here due to lax or nonexistent border protections, and are actively recruiting others within the country. These need watching, though you may not.

Dismantling the NSA would be a dire mistake, and even watching them closely would be next to impossible. They may not be to our liking, but we are better off to put up with one evil in order to keep other worse evils at bay.

I always thought it was interesting that NSA would try to find needles by making the haystack bigger. Is the result better than what our troops get from the DIA? How much money should be spent on such endeavors?
