Russia Doctored Photos in Shooting Down of Airliner, Report Finds

A new independent report finds that Russia doctored photos to implicate the Ukrainian military in the shooting down of the Malaysian airliner MH17 last July, casting doubt on Russian claims that neither separatists armed by Russia nor its own military were to blame for the disaster.

The report is the latest by the independent analysis group, Bellingcat, which has been using open source material -- often video and photos posted on social media -- to provide hard evidence that Russia has been sending troops and weapons into eastern Ukraine to support rebels there, despite denials from the Kremlin.

MH17 was shot out of the air on July 17, 2014, killing all 298 passengers on board. Most experts say the plane was most likely struck by a Buk anti-aircraft missile, a type commonly used by Ukrainian and Russian forces. Shortly after the crash, Russia's defense ministry presented satellite images it said showed Buk missile launchers belonging to Ukraine's army near the eastern city of Donetsk in the days around the shooting-down, meant to imply that the Ukrainian army had hit the plane.

I know nothing will disabuse the willfully ignorant in the Putinista platoons who've drunk the kool aid. This report is for serious people not in love with Putin's efforts to reestablish a Soviet Empire under his rule.

“This report is for serious people not in love with Putin’s efforts to reestablish a Soviet Empire under his rule. “

The weakness of his empire rests in the fact that it is a one man show. When he disappeared for a few days about three months ago Russia talked of nothing else. That’s because the there is no succession. When he dies the whole shebang is likely to collapse until another dictator takes over and rebuilds. When that happens the entire world is in greater danger as the control over the nukes becomes tenuous. During the uncertain transition is when they’re more likely to be sold off.

Yes, good points. We tend to focus on the weakness of our government. Yet autocracy has its weakness too.

Russia destroyed the MH17 crime scene, denied access to it and now is proven to have photoshopped their “evidence”. There would have been no reason for Putinists to do all that had Ukraine actually shot the plane down. Use your brain, FRiend. Russia is guilty of murder of 285 people (including 85 kids) on MH17, case closed.

He's a true believer in Putin; he cannot psychologically accept that Putin is guilty of anything.

Remeber all the Putin bootlickers who told us on FR it wasn’t Russian army filth running around Crimea a year ago? Where are they now after Putin admitted they were Russian army troops and gave them medals? Those “conservatives” never retracted their lies in support of mass murdering KGB filth.

Putin wants quiet now ahead of the EU sanctions debate later this month. So his useful idiot water carriers in the west will stay quiet until further notice. The Russian invasion of Ukraine will heat up after that and they will be back parroting the latest Kremlin propaganda.

Not in love with Putin, yet consider the fake news outlet publishing the story: ABC routinely doctors information so it will fit THEIR ideological narrative....ABC also continues to employee a major contributor to Clinton Crime Family Foundation—he is employed as a POLITICAL NEWS reporter.

Got bias?

Why don’t you ask the Russian GRU agent from Moscow who took “credit” for shooting the plane down? Russia had shot down several other Ukrainian airplanes before this happened using advanced anti aircraft batteries. This isn’t some random one time “accident”.
