Lane splitting has always been legal in California because it has never been illegal. It is legal there for multiple vehicles to occupy the same lane. Until recently, guidelines for lane splitting could be found online in the CHP (California Highway Patrol) website. They took these down while trying to decide if they want to write specific laws to control it.

I just retired to Tennessee after 65 years in California. Never again will I get an ‘F’ on my marked-up voter's Sample Ballot.

Lane-splitting about 1/2 way to being fully legal in CA...(instead of a “gray-area”): http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2015/05/28/california-state-assembly-approves-lane-splitting-legislation-allowing-motorcyclists-to-move-through-stalled-traffic/

Congrats. I left decades ago and never looked back except for those few times I go visit family in a city I never lived in to the North.

More people are leaving Cali than moving to it unless you are hispanic. Hispanics are moving there in droves and of course ruining a once great state. It was one of my main reasons for leaving it all those years ago. I could see the writing on the wall even back then. I didn’t think it was going to be this bad though...
