Kentucky Sports Radio host Matt Jones has been selected to emcee the annual Fancy Farm picnics political speeches when candidates, officeholders and thousands of visitors descend on the small town in far western Kentucky Aug. 1, the events organizer announced in a news release Wednesday.
Mark Wilson, chairman of the Graves County picnics political speaking program, said in a news release that Jones will bring a new audience to the 135th event benefiting St. Jerome Catholic Church.
While many Kentuckians know about our famous picnic, we think having someone with the reach of Matts radio program and website will bring expanded awareness and enhancement to our festivities and political speaking event, Wilson said in a statement.
Having Matt serve as our emcee is bringing two Kentucky traditions together and will only heighten the interest in our beloved picnic, he continued. We cant wait for the first Saturday in August to get things going.
Jones whose sports radio program has dabbled in politics, most recently with a live debate May 6 among Kentuckys four Republican gubernatorial candidates was called the most listened to local voice on Kentucky airwaves in a news release, which noted that KSR is broadcast on more than 30 affiliates in Kentucky and West Virginia.
The opportunity to host one of Kentuckys political traditions is a tremendous honor, Jones said in a news release.
I am very excited to be a part of Fancy Farm this year, he said in a statement. I look forward to helping bring the uniqueness of Fancy Farm to a new audience.
Speaking invitations are extended to candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, auditor, agriculture commissioner and treasurer as well as current officeholders, including congressmen and legislators local to the area.

I like Matt’s website. I don’t mind his radio work. But politically, he’s much closer to Ashley Judd than to the average Kentuckian.
I couldn’t agree more. I have turned off his show a few times when he has gotten into politics.
Although I will say this - he was very fair in acting as moderator of the GOP primary debate - didn’t toss in Trojan horses like Stephanapolus and company would have done.
