Land Commish can be a good way to get a serious start in Texas politics. P better get that deer in the headlights look off to have a chance.

There were more than a few Texas Mexicans that fought for Texas against Mexico.
Columba Bush’s ancestors were not Texas Mexicans. They were Mexico Mexicans and didn’t sneak over the border until the 20th century.
Could be you are correct on the immigration timing, but I don’t think there is any evidence that Mexican citizens, en mass, supported the feared and hated dictator Santa Anna, other than by conscription.
