Can racism be stopped in the third grade?
Thats the question asked in this weeks New York Magazine cover story by journalist Lisa Miller. The short answer, of course, is that it all depends on how you define racism.
At the Fieldston Lower School, a $43,000-per-year Riverdale institution, the administration sees racism everywhere. Just consider the microaggressions that have been uncovered.

Back when Zimbabwe’s hyper inflation was just getting on a roll, a Western reporter was surveying prices in Harare. He & his guide had just eaten a couple of hamburgers for lunch and the bill came to several million Zimbabwe dollars.
He looked in at an appliance store and saw a TV with a price tag which read “11”. The reporter asked, “Is that 11 BILLION?”
The shop owner replied,”No, the next one. I forget which that one is.”
That sounds like segregation to me.
