Back in the 80’s when I was working in the East bay I used to call up the Berkeley Seismo lab automated recording that used to list the EQ that have occurred in the Western US. One day they listed a 4+ event as an “unscheduled nuclear event” in the Nevada test range. WTF? I had heard others listed as nuclear tests but never “unscheduled”. I always figured someone screwed up but could never confirm it.

I was recently reading old family letters, including one from my aunt who was living in Reno when the atomic testing was taking place. She reported that after tests, for several days she and others would feel a little sick. I wonder how much radiation they were getting that the government never acknowledged or even bothered to test for?
