Sorry about your loss. I had to put down four German shepherds in three years, three due to cancer.
We’ve had overlapping dogs for the last 30 years and this is the first one that there wasn’t an overlap. For some reason, maybe because this poor guy was the most timid and scared pup we had of the three. For a 60 pound dog, it crushed me that someone must have abused him as a puppy to break his spirit. Since my sister rescued him on the interstate, we knew nothing of his background. He accepted us but would hide if someone he didn’t know came in the house. Since this was by far the roughest one of the three we’re not leaning on getting another one. We’ll make efforts to increase our support of the local animal shelter with food and treats when we can.
