A Sikh student from New Zealand who broke strict religious protocol by taking off his turban to help save the life of a child hit by a car has been heralded as a hero.

Harman Singh, 22, removed his turban to cradle the bleeding head of a five-year-old boy who had been struck on his way to school in Takanini, South Auckland.

Could not fit actual title due to length. Title should read:

Sikhs believe that the way to lead a good life is to:

Keep God in heart and mind at all times Live honestly and work hard Treat everyone equally Be generous to the less fortunate Serve others

Always hate it when these people accidentally get targeted after a muslim terrorist attack. The seem pretty decent folk.

A muslim would have let him die.

Did not. But as I said, I’ve never met Sikh I didn’t like. Among the best people in NYC AFAIC.

Knew a few in my college days. They were great people and I have seen nothing in the last 40 years to change that opinion.

I think this is a case where a comment such as Jesus "...the sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath..." applies.

"Strict religious observation" must give way to necessity.

I know many (my town has the second largest Iraqi refugee population in the US) and I don’t think one of them would have lifted a finger to save him. Unless there was a dollar to be made. Then they would likely have fought each other over the chance.

I knew a muslim street vendor who insisted on giving me coffee and donuts in the morning when he learned I was laid off.

I know it’s funny. Honestly, where was the Aryan nation born? Not skin heads in the U.S, not the Nazis ... It was a concept from India.

If their e-mom told them to, they would kill you.

Well, I admit, I've wondered about that.

Being Egyptian may be the difference. The Iraqis around here are dishonest and will steal from their mothers. They drop off their kids at school in their Cadillac Escalades; those same kids apply for and get free lunches. I am being serious, I don't think one of them would have lifted a finger to help the boy unless there was a dollar to be made.

Here's an example of how our Iraqi friends have acclimated to life in America.

I know. That’s where the Nazis picked up the use of the swastika. It’s like “Caucasian.” Who’s Caucasian? Georgians, Armenians, Chechens.

Ricardo Montalban, of course, was of Spanish ethnicity, born in Mexico. Spanish people - my boss is one - consider themselves objectively superior to all of those folks wreaking havoc with the Spanish language!

Sikhs have an interesting application of the Hindu notion of non-violence. Every baptized Sikh is supposed to always carry a sword or dagger so as to be able to defend the innocent against violence.

Sort of: If you’re not non-violent, I kill you.
