I listened to him once go on for twenty minutes about how opposing abortion in all cases is “intellectually consistent,” but he just couldn’t imagine “forcing” a young girl to bear a child conceived in rape. He kept calling abortion “murder,” and then supporting a “rape exception.”

He’s the same way with contraception. He says he accepts the Church’s teaching, but supports federal funding of contraception because it’s a “benefit.”

One of his intellectual problems is that he doesn’t see that the Church calls some things a “sin” because they are BAD FOR PEOPLE. He thinks that, if you’re not a Catholic, contraception is a good thing. That’s actually the same argument Nancy Pelosi (and Geraldine Ferraro, and Mario Cuomo, etc., etc.) have made for years: I accept that abortion is a sin, but it’s unfair that rich women have this “benefit” if poor women don’t.

I knew Fr. Jonathan Morris (Legionary) was a snake when he supported Sean in his position on government funding of contraception.

The interesting about making a “rape exception” is that females who conceive via rape tend to be the least desirous of abortion. Many, probably most, feel that they mustn’t kill a baby to punish a rapist. That has been documented by several sources that I have seen though I can’t locate one of them quickly enough for this. Also rapees that are forced to abort by family or social workers (it happens) tend to have more psychological problems afterward, PTSD as it were.
