I landed on a page which offered a 4th level, Platinum, probably unique to that particular company.

From the article:

Cruz and his wife, Heidi, purchased a private health insurance plan from Texas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, campaign spokesman Rick Tyler said Saturday.

"They didn't buy it off the exchange," Tyler said. There was no gap between coverage, and the Cruz family never enrolled in a plan through the Affordable Care Act. He would not give details on the plan the Cruz family has, nor discuss the cost.

That piqued my curiosity. We can probably assume they picked one of the high-end plans. Good for them!

As for not purchasing the plan through the ZeroCare exchange, that's just good sense. But it doesn't really matter, since ZeroCare mandates what plans the likes of Texas BCBS and other private insurors can offer.

I am all for someone purchasing the best health care plan they can afford. I do not begrudge anyone for purchasing a plan on the open marketplace instead of the federal exchange. If I had the means to purchase a policy on the open market, I would have.

Seriously, if Cruz purchased a plan through the federal exchange I would question his intelligence! :)
