I think you’re right. By his legal training, he’s methodically building his case. And when he finally presents it, it will attempt to make it so compelling as to leave no question as to the verdict. And, it will surprise people.

Good point...you get hard work out of the way first.
Bush Sr. and then McCain had such big problems with the base, that they had to reach to the far right at the end of their campaigns to even stand a chance (Bush Sr. had to do that in both of his campaigns). But doing so that late leaves you looking desperate. As I just mentioned, Reagan had the base so well locked down that he able to tack a bit towards the center at the end, and therefore looked in command and did great.
