I said we “need to” make the statement. I didn’t even say we have to do it. (But, of course, we would “need to” keep our promises.)
You mistake my meaning, I agree with you at least as far as changing our policy. I would not go as far as "vaporizing" with nuclear weapons but a little old-fashioned carpet bombing might encourage the others.
