Some bloggers report that thousands of pastors are being recruited by FEMA/DHS, as part of the Clergy Response Team, supposedly to tell their congregations to obey the DHS in the event of Martial Law, using this ext from Romans:

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” Romans 13:1

It is thought that this manipulation of Romans 13 is designed to force compliance to government edicts upon religious congregants who might not otherwise comply. Certainly all governments are not established by God. Were the governments of Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, all ordained by God? What about George the III? Most people in the independent media think that this is the extent of the threat posed by the existence of the Clergy Response Teams.

Here is some info on clergy response teams. Basically these are pastors that are towing the government line and encouraging their flock to obey the government especially during a crisis. Often they rely on Romans 13 to justify obeying any government under most circumstances. Well, Paul was jailed so he obviously disobeyed Roman authorities for a good reason.

As far as my more general statement, it is my impression that organized religion has been more willing to accept sinful behavior- just look at the debate with regards to homosexual marriage for example and the revised positions of the Anglican Church, PCUSA etc.
