On Tuesday, Pew Research released a new study finding a radical increase in the number of religiously unaffiliated Americans. That increase correlated strongly with the decrease in the number of Catholics, mainline Protestants, and evangelical Protestants over the past seven years.

Stockmarket movements.
I don’t buy it.
Are there fewer Christians, or are there just fewer who claim to be Christian?
I think the church may be going through a “cleansing” as well as a falling away as prophesied in 1 Thessalonians.
The wheat from the tares.
The Messiah returned in 2008. </sarc>
There are fewer who claim affiliation with any specific denomination; they no longer see the often politicized and the stringently dogmatic denominations as a source of guidance or reinforcement of their faith. The situation today seems to be similar to the conditions at the beginning of the reformation. This does not mean they have abandoned their Christian faith.
Religion?
I don’t believe a true Christian would leave God and worship the demons that has taken over this country. And we all know who those are..It will never matter I will never denounce my GOD.i will praise him until the day I go be with him.
I do know there are several religions which worshipping devils is one and BUDDA,AND ON AND ON..
Abandoning religions and finding God...
Christian Church isn’t “popular” today—old fashioned—so 20the Century. Wait till the threats come and the terror—then people will crowd the churches. Remember 9-11? The churches were full. Wait for the next big war—when American cities are all aflame and the newspapers list the millions dead! Maybe then we shall need a bit of Church. Its coming, soon. Before the Next President takes office.
I dont buy it.
Me also. Revival is increasing and misinformation like this is a defense against it.
Isn’t it possible that the percentage of people who are Christians is declining partly due to the fact that we are letting more non-Christians (i.e. Muslims) into this country, and that they are breeding?
If this is indeed “The Great Falling Away” that the Bible speaks of, then it is a sign that Jesus will return soon. Christians pray every day, “ Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!”
There are quite a few Christians who are looking for churches. That’s me right now. To many are preaching from the Gospel of Social Justice than the synoptic ones.
Then you’ve got Pope Che Guevara, the eco-evangelist in Rome. I listen to him and think, “God must know what He’s doing, right?”
Mainly because of the radical increase in undocumented aliens...
In the 70’s and 80’s many Christian Churches became little more than liberal elite propaganda units.
My thoughts on these “young and educated” folks who are abandoning religion (which comes from having taught college and graduate students over the past 15 years and also having hired them in my FT job):
In this age group in which religion has taken a rapid decline, so too has this their willingness to work hard, their understanding that they’re not always right, their belief that not everything they do is done well, and their acknowledgement that there are people in the world to whom they should listen as those folks are more educated, experienced, and wise than they are.
In short, we need a God and we need children to be raised as believers because a belief in God and a religious system imbues the understandings I described above: religion is hard work; religion tells you that you’re not above reproach; religion tells you from an early age that there is Someone out there who is more educated, experienced and wise than you are.
The fact that this group (and more and more Americans) have decided they’re too smart for a God has meant that they’ve decided that they ARE God. And (although I’m Catholic) they are throwing the Protestant Work Ethic right out the door with it, because if you’re God, there’s no need for that silliness.
So the lack of religion/belief is a brewing economic, societal, and political as well as ecclesiastical disater.
i did too i tell you why because i was put one side in the church so i understood what’s an evangelist or catholic community soon you’re in it they forget you they want you in church only just to grow the number of people and another thing i understood they tell you is Jesus who give and they never do give you a damn
Are biblical predictions specific to the U.S.?
The relationship is individual with God one on one.
This is the media and religion is so very personal, me too, I do not think this is accurate.
Keep talking about God, Keep being good, loving. The rest will follow if not here then in heaven.
