He might just fear that the republicans might win the Catholic vote in 2016.
It has happened 4 or 5 times in the past (depending on the source).

The popes closest adviser on Tuesday slammed climate-change skeptics, blaming capitalist motivations from movements in the United States for opposing the Catholic Church leaders upcoming environmental letter. The ideology surrounding environmental issues is too tied to a capitalism that doesnt want to stop ruining the environment because they dont want to give up their profits, said Cardinal Oscar Rodríguez Maradiaga at a news conference in Rome marking the start of Caritas Internationalis, an annual meeting of Catholic charitable groups, according to The Boston Globe. Check this out.

I refused to give to Peter’s Pence collection last year, and I will continue not to give so long as Jorge Bergoglio remains Pope.

Kind of a literal take on “the love of money is the root of all evil” (bad bible interpretation — there are myriad evils not committed for money — and even Catholics ought to know that by now).
But if he MUST, MUST, MUST follow the money to a root of evil... why not the fantastic liberal game? Hello jillionaire Al Gore?

Since when did the Pope, the Catholic Church et al, become "climate change" experts?

There aren't enough American Catholics already leaving the church?
So the church feels a need to insult millions over a political issue?
That's gonna' be a big help.
My home town had a beautiful moderate size Catholic church - it looked and felt like a small version of St. Patrick's Cathedral in NY City.
We had a rectory, a convent, 4 or 5 full time priests and too many nuns to count. At least one Mass was held daily and several on Sunday. We also had a Catholic grade school and high school and the teachers were all nuns.
The school was complete with sports teams, playing fields, etc.
Now the church is closed and gradually rotting away because the roof leaks and there is no money to fix it.
The schools, the rectory and convent have been closed for lack of money and most of the properties sold off.
There are no nuns at all and no full time priest any more.
On most Sundays a visiting priest holds one mass in the basement of one of the old school buildings.
And the church wants to alienate more Catholics over the Global Warming debate?

“Evangelical fundies”? You mean Evangelical Christians and the conservative center of America and people like Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin?

I didn’t say it was wrong... unless taken out of proper biblical place. It isn’t an “excuse us forever” note.

He has a responsibility as the leader of the biggest single earthly Christian denomination. Oy vey. To be Christian is to be a kook? What a lousy witness.
We want good science, not fear mongering.

true. Unfortunately neither the pope nor his barking dog has ever lived under and understood the virtues of capitalism. They think their South American crony fascism is capitalism. That is why their emissions are so foul.

If it’s any consolation the USA is skidding in that direction too, and not because private enterprise wanted it but because politicians are too big for their britches now.

Take a deep breath and calm down, there is no need to go angry and attacking for anything, if you don’t want to explain your post, then don’t.

Quite true it didn’t. It did house-arrest Galileo, who dared to be a bit brash about his new discoveries.
It really IS going to “burn” a lot of folks financially today by upholding one of the biggest liberal-enrichment rackets known to mankind.
