Actually the line of sight from photographer to subjects looks adult eye level in both of them. There is no evidence it is a smaller subject shooting “upward”, it is direct on at the same level.

The evidence is common sense. They are taking turns having their picture taken with Obama Sr. She takes one with him and the boy, and the boy takes one of him with the woman.
Why are there none of the three of them together? Maybe they did ask a stranger to take the picture, and it has been lost to history.
But common sense suggests that it was just the three of them at the airport, and they took turns taking pictures with Obama.

Also, take a closer look at the lighting of the background. Imagine that the camera was likely a Kodak Instamatic with a square 4-flashbulb cube on top.
See how much more directly lit the background is with the boy in it?
Look at the white partition to the right of Obama. Notice the angle of partition relative to the wooden trim on the side of the agent's desk. See how the underside of the trim is more lit in the photo with the woman, and the underside is darker in the photo with the boy?
