The asteroid will approach Earth
on 2015 Mar 14.
So? You just don't get it. Let me try to explain it another way. Even as we speak, a large truck is on a highway 20 miles away from me. This truck is moving in my general direction.
It is possible that that the truck's steering will fail. And then the truck might roll across 20 miles of woods and yards and hit my house! Maybe even while I'm watching the Jerry Springer show on TV!
This is serious stuff!

Of more interest to me, would be whether any of the space junk clinging to this asteroid will come loose and head to earth.
This is what some scientists say the meteor which expoded above Russia a few years ago was: a tag-along of the large asteroid which flew by earth during the same time.

The article talks about March several times, though the photo has the label May. Most likely we lived through this.

So if the asteroid is a mile wide then according to that photo the earth is about 5 miles across, which means that I’ll never earn enough frequent flyer miles to get free roundtrip tickets.

will skim the Earth....pass within six million miles
Using the same ratios, a basketball nearly hits the rim if it misses the goal by a mere 600 feet.

The gigantic missile thought to measure almost a mile across will brush closer than previous monsters which have sparked a global panic. When did that happen? I must have slept thru those 'global panics'.

Let’s see...it is only 2 days away, with a projected miss of 6 million miles (some 24 times further than the Moon). Even with a very sizable margin of error, it isn’t going to be close. Astronomically close, yes, but not close enough to worry me.
Also, that picture of the asteroid hitting the Earth is HIGHLY (HUGELY) misleading - that one looks to be thousands of miles in diameter, not 1 mile wide.
PURE hype. Were it months out and projected to be headed to somewhere within half or a quarter of a lunar orbit of us, I might be much more concerned, but this is just a joke.
Longer term, we as a species need to keep watch for things like this headed our way, and be able to shoot nukes or powerful lasers at it to push it enough to make it miss us...but, again, not this particular one.
