Lynchburg veterans mark 700th week of military support rally(started right after 9/11)

The 700th consecutive "Support our Troops" rally was held Friday at Monument Terrace. Men and women have gathered along Church Street every Friday since November of 2001.

Interesting story about these veterans and Monument Terrace (infuriating, too).

At the terrace is a WWI memorial-—a bronze statue of a doughboy. Last year a stupid college student vandalized it; she snapped off the doughboy’s bayonet and stole it. The veterans who gather there offered a $1,000 reward for its return.

Well, the student was eventually caught, and instead of jail time, she was sentenced to spend time with the veterans and learn from them. But, after some visits were made, the veterans said they no longer wanted her there, because she wasn’t interested in anything they had to say and refused to learn a thing.
