how could it have gone so Wrong?

I mean you could mow a few yards,sell some lemon-aide or Christmas cards.
Go by a bike or that .22 and the folks told you to “get lost” or play in traffic and You did that.

Yup. Things have changed dramatically, and young people have no idea. It wasn't unusual for me to find .22 cartridges at the curb, and take them home as souvenirs. My daughters had .38 cartridges on their keyrings when they went to school. Kids wore holsters with toy guns everywhere they went, and people just smiled at them. Kids were setting off explosives everywhere, in and out of their front yards. And that didn't trigger a mass response by cops. So much fear out there now, and young people don't realize how things are different for the worse now.
