I thought her album "Court and Spark" was one of the better albums of its day, maybe of all time. As the story says, her music is often confessional and autobiographical, and "Court and Spark" captured a point in time in which Mitchell was being caught up in - and overwhelmed - by the celebrity and drug culture of the late sixties and early seventies.
There are some very poignant moments on the album, and I had the feeling that Mitchell was falling into a lifestyle that was out of synch with some of her deepest values. But she was hooked. In a way she seemed very bright, but there was something flawed in her character, maybe a neediness or a void or self-doubt, that made her behave in a self-destructive manner.

I still rate “Court and Spark” as one of the best albums of all time. Joni’s album “Hejira” was another one I liked. I was hanging out with some metal heads in my younger days and one of Joni’s songs came on the radio, I thought they were all going to die, lol.
