Starting July 1, motorists will pay less to drive on Maryland toll bridges and roadways.
Gov. Larry Hogan (R) made the surprise announcement Thursday during a hastily called news conference at the foot of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, where he proudly announced that the toll would drop $2. The reductions, he said, mark the first time in 50 years that the states tolls have been rolled back.
Our concern is about the money taken out of the pockets of taxpayers, Hogan said. Its what we ran on. Its what we promised to do. Were delivering on what we said we would.
In all, the changes will save those who use the roadways about $54 million a year, he said.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Why July 1st and not June 1st or even the Memorial Day holiday?
I thought Maryland is there just to irritate NJ.
Maryland’s fiscal year starts 1 July. I don’t know if that’s specifically the reason but that could have something to do with it.
We’re in the same boat here in NJ; it is simply too expensive to live here without the high-paying jobs that have fled the state. Even with high tolls the roadways are crappy; so much money is directed to retired gubmint workers that little is left of current revenue for maintenance.
The Garden State Parkway tolls were supposed to pay for the construction of the road; 60+ years later we’re still paying for them. Thankfully I rarely use our toll roads; never had to get EZ-Pass.
It takes time to stop the Leviathan.
Yep...and EVERY election the people vote for the crooks who profit from the scam!
Maryland is a small state. As you drive around you must run into toll roads all the time.
Not in NJ; Christie is reviled by the left by the same press that de-legitimizes him on the right because he won’t play ball. He is trying to keep costs down by reducing the burden of public sector employees, and is attacked ceaselessly for it.
He has all the right enemies against him, and all the right voters (taxpayers) behind him.
My commute doesn’t involve tolls, unless I have to use the ICC due to an accident.
Don’t forget the Nice bridge between Maryland and Virginia.
. . . and, of course, the recently-opened I-95 Express Lanes northeast of Baltimordor.
Oh yeah. I forgot that terrifying 301 bridge. Hate that one.
