Hillary Clinton Takes the Lead on Immigration (barf)
New York Times ^ | May 7, 2015 | By Editorial Board

Posted on 05/07/2015 1:55:14 PM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

With her speech on immigration in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Hillary Rodham Clinton took a large step forward, up front and to the left of President Obama. That is a good place to be for a presidential candidate who proposes to get the stalled debate moving again, and to bring hope to the millions living here outside the law.

Mrs. Clinton defended a path to citizenship for those 11 million, and promised as president to take executive action — more broadly than Mr. Obama has — to defer the deportations of those who have strong bonds to the community through family and work. She also promised to make conditions “more humane” for immigrant detainees.

Mrs. Clinton noted that her call for a citizenship path sets her apart from any and all Republicans who are in, or likely to enter, the 2016 race. The same is true of her support for executive action. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, a former advocate of sensible reform, had the sense beaten out of him by the Tea Party, and now seems to be seeking a vague provisional status for the undocumented — a long, difficult path to a temporary work permit. Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, has been moderate in the past but is wobbly on citizenship, a nonstarter for many in his party. Whether he supports it for some immigrants, and which ones, under what conditions, is hard to pin down on any given day; like other Republicans hoping to survive the primaries, he is on his own tortuous path to a coherent position. . .

”… Hillary Rodham Clinton took a large step forward, up front and to the left of President Obama."

Hillary’s “large step forward” is very misguided for the following reason. The states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate immigration. This is evidenced by the excerpts from the writings of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison below. So Hillary’s first step on immigration is the following.

Hillary must work with federal and state lawmakers to propose an immigration amendment to the Constitution to the states. And if the states choose to ratify Hillary’s amendment then the feds will actually have the constitutional authority that they need to regulate vote-winning immigration and Hillary will be a hero.

Regarding so-called federal immigration laws, note that both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, Madison generally regarded as the father of the Constitution, had written, in terms of the 10th Amendment nonetheless, that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate immigration, immigration therefore a state power issue.

As mentioned in related threads, here is the relevant excerpt from Jefferson’s writing.

“4. _Resolved_, That alien friends are under the jurisdiction and protection of the laws of the State wherein they are: that no power over them has been delegated to the United States, nor prohibited to the individual States, distinct from their power over citizens. And it being true as a general principle, and one of the amendments to the Constitution having also declared, that “the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people,” the act of the Congress of the United States, passed on the — day of July, 1798, intituled “An Act concerning aliens,” which assumes powers over alien friends, not delegated by the Constitution, is not law, but is altogether void, and of no force [emphasis added].” —Thomas Jefferson, Draft of the Kentucky Resolutions - October 1798.

And here is the related excerpt from the writings of James Madison in Virginia Resolutions.

"That the General Assembly doth particularly protest against the palpable and alarming infractions of the Constitution, in the two late cases of the "Alien and Sedition Acts" passed at the last session of Congress; the first of which exercises a power no where delegated to the federal government, ...

… the General Assembly doth solemenly appeal to the like dispositions of the other states, in confidence that they will concur with this commonwealth in declaring, as it does hereby declare, that the acts aforesaid, are unconstitutional; and that the necessary and proper measures will be taken by each, for co-operating with this state, in maintaining the Authorities, Rights, and Liberties, referred to the States respectively, or to the people [emphasis added]. ”— James Madison, Draft of the Virginia Resolutions - December 1798.

Also, regardless that federal Democrats, RINOs, activist judges and indoctrinated ACLU attorneys will argue that if the Constitution doesn’t say that the feds can’t do something then they can do it, the Supreme Court has addressed that foolish idea too. Politically correct interpretations of the Constitution's Supremacy Clause (5.2) aside, the Court has clarified in broad terms that powers not delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate immigration in this case, are prohibited to the feds.

”From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.

And the reason that most federal laws are in the books is because of the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, corrupt federal senators wrongly working with the corrupt House to pass unconstitutional federal immigration bills.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and a bunch of corrupt senators along with it.

CLINTON MIND GAMES Bill Clinton ups his visibility in the wake of the Clinton Foundation tsunami---he will speak (for an undisclosed fee) at Spanish-language network Univision on the subject of “growth and influence of the Latino market" (dontcha just love the latino agit-prop?).

The NY Post reports the speech could be part of a strategy with Univision owner, Israeli Haim Saban, to deliver these votes to Hillary. Saban, a billionaire entertainment mogul, is also hosting Hollywood fund-raisers for Hillary in LA.

TIT FOR TAT Bill does the paid speech for Haim and Haim helps deal with the critical Hispanic audience for Hillary.

Other says the incentive for Bill to appear at the Univision event is his need to get visibility after the barrage of unfavorable publicity.

This is classic Clinton election MO---***-kissing as many voting blocs as possible.

Hillary is moving quickly to the left.... ***-kissing every lefty voting bloc she can sniff out:<> she wants to “topple” the One Percent,<> she’s pledging solidarity with unions, <> she supports a constitutional amendment to suppress political speech,<> she’s OK w/ a right to same-sex marriage,<> she’s calling for an end to the “era of mass incarceration,” <> she wants to go “further” than Obama’s free-for-all illegal executive amnesty......

God knows what blood and gore she'll throw the genital-sniffing rubbermaids over at Planned Parenthood to assure them aggression over the unborn is her prime interest.

Maybe she'll endorse post-birth abortions as the true measure of her abortion worship.

WIKI---Latino Univision owner, Haim Saban, says his greatest concern is to protect Israel. At a conference in Israel, Saban described his formula. His three ways to influence American politics were: make donations to political parties, establish think tanks, and control media outlets.[22]

Saban became involved in politics in the mid-1990s when he felt that support for Israel was slipping in the United States.[5]

Saban has been a generous and consistent donor to the United States Democratic Party according to his mandatory Federal Election Commission filings. Mother Jones, in an analysis of the major donors to the campaigns of 1998 election cycle, ranked Saban 155th among individual donors.[23] Amy Paris noted that Saban's Clinton-era "generosity did not go unrewarded. During the Clinton administration, the entertainment executive served on the President's Export Council, advising the White House on trade issues."[23]

The New York Times reported that Haim and his wife "slept in the White House several times during President Clinton's two terms." Saban remains close friends with the former President. Clinton described Saban as a "very good friend and supporter."[5] Saban contributed between $5 million to $10 million to the William J. Clinton Foundation.[24]

During the 2000 presidential election, Saban increased his rank to 5th among individual donors with a combined contribution of $1,250,500.[23] Matthew Yglesias wrote that "Saban was the largest overall contributor to the Democratic National Committee during the 2001–2002 cycle." [25] Saban's donations during that 2001–2002 period exceeded $10 million, the largest donation the DNC has received from a single source up to that time.

In September 2004, Hillary Clinton described Saban as a very good friend, supporter and adviser: "I am grateful for his commitment to Israel, to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East and to my foundation's work, particularly on reconciliation issues."[5] In May 2007, Haim publicly declared his support for Clinton in 2008 presidential election.[20]

In June 2007, Saban and Steven Spielberg co-hosted a Hillary Clinton fundraiser at the house of Peter Chernin, the President of News Corporation.[26] According to the Los Angeles Times,[26] the fundraiser brought in over $850,000.

In March 2008, Saban was among a group of major Jewish donors to sign a letter to Democratic Party house leader Nancy Pelosi warning her to "keep out of the Democratic presidential primaries."[27] The donors, who "were strong supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign", "were incensed by a March 16 interview in which Pelosi said that party 'superdelegates' should heed the will of the majority in selecting a candidate."[27] The letter to Pelosi stated the donors "have been strong supporters of the DCCC" and implied, according to The Jewish Telegraphic Agency,[27] that Pelosi could lose their financial support in important upcoming congressional elections.

On May 19, 2008, it was reported that Haim Saban had "offered $1 million to the Young Democrats of America during a phone conversation in which he also pressed for the organization's two uncommitted superdelegates to endorse the New York Democrat."[28]

Saban, a long-time supporter and donor of many pro-Jewish and Israel causes, has stated his main goal in multiple interviews: "I'm a one-issue guy, and my issue is Israel."[38]

Haim Saban, a worldwide pioneer and leader in the
entertainment industry, is the Chairman and CEO of
Saban Capital Group, Inc.
