My understanding has been that the Pope has been..viewed as infallible since there first were popes!

I’m not a Roman Catholic. I know that. That's why I asked the experts. If they don't answer, I'll look it up in the Catholic Catechism. But I'd like to hear from actual Roman Catholics.
