Knife laws are stupid anyways.
That’s how I feel about this. I’m glad that the cops have a reasonable chance of getting out of that charge, but it annoys me that it is illegal to carry a pocket knife just because it can be deployed quickly.
I believe the USE of things should be illegal, not the possession of them, unless their only purpose is illegal. As a knife can be used for many lawful purposes, making it illegal offends me as a believer in limited government.
But since they are illegal, I can’t see putting a cop in jail for enforcing a law I disagree with.
I still don’t think you should fear being arrested for carrying a pocket knife, or running away from police.
Interestingly, I went through some police training in Virginia (I was a volunteer victim/perp), and learned that in my state, actually possessing a handgun that is concealed is not an automatic arrestable offense. It was explained to me that in the absence of any other crime, they would confiscate, and charge, but would release the person, not take them to jail.
I do like my state.
