[No. Making fun of anybodys religion is wrong...]
Considering you are living in Seattle, your understanding of Islam and their goals doesn’t surprise me.
You do know that their religion holds the record for number of people murdered, right? 100 million people have been killed by the followers of Islam. The Hindu Kush mountain range is named after a massive massacre of Hindus by Muslims. "Hindu Kush" means "Hindu Slaughter."
The Islamists have managed to beat even the Communists in mass death, and that is no small accomplishment.
It appears that there are some Freepers out there who need to see your most excellent post!
I suppose you support anti-blasphemy laws?
Welcome to Free Republic.
“...and mockery is fine if they say crazy things. (like you cannot draw my God)...”
Some Christians think it is wrong to have a drawing or statue of Jesus (or Mary, etc.)
“...you shall make no graven images...”
I get their point- it can somehow limit your view of Jesus as seeing him only as a man or something like that. But I’m not sure that is what is meant in the Ten Commandments.
No big deal to me. Unless they start chopping off heads to prove their point.
I read on FR awhile ago where Mohammed was part of a tribe that was expanding territory in battles. And they had a hard time keeping all of the various tribes that they captured under control. So he came up with the muslim “religion” in order to unite the various tribes under one thought system.
” Making fun of anybodys religion is wrong, no matter how misguided or evil we may think that religion is.”
Feelings...whoa, whoa, whoa, feelings.....
Nazism had a significant cult figure worship component, too - almost like a religion. I do hope that the mockery by Charlie Chaplain, the Three Stooges and countless writers and cartoonists didn't hurt Adolf's feelings too badly.
No. Making fun of anybodys religion is wrong, no matter how misguided or evil we may think that religion is.
I hope FR shuts it down.
Freedom of speech is an essential right and I’d die for the right of FR to do this contest mocking a religion.
However, I am religious and my religion teaches me not to mock other faiths. My religion teaches me to treat others as I wish to be treated and I would like my religion to be respected.
Other faiths are fine for other people. My rabbis taught me to respect that other people have their own ways. One of the reasons I love my religion is that it doesn’t purport to be the only or the best. It only purports to be the best for ME.
The content of one’s character can’t be rationalized legally. The Klansman is printed in this country, and the guards outside the building have never been shot. Mocking religion is to be legally tolerated even if it is difficult, as It is, for blacks and Jews to tolerate such filth being printed.
If FR allows mocking of a religion that is also not a legal issue, it’s a content of one’s character issue. Same with this TX contest. It’s in bad taste but it’s perfectly legal and should be.
I was offended by Piss Christ and Book of Mormon. I defend to the death the artists’ right to create them, but I don’t think mocking a faith is ok if you just don’t like that particular faith.
and also...
What’s with the date? April 3rd was a Friday, and today is May 4th.
Maybe I’m missing something here. :^)
Not a religion. It is a cult.
Im going to blame that typo on Daylight savings time..../
So you are ok with Sharia Law since that is just as offensive to most Mooselimbs to ignore.
Pray America is waking
I don’t think that opposition to a faith brought about by the wholesale slaughter and rape practiced by adherents of that faith in obedience to the written scripture of that faith falls into a category of irrational prejudice.
I also assert that it is impossible to shift the focus from the behavior which caused the mockery with out outright defending said actions. No matter how many tortured and twisted rationalizations the defender makes.
Easy enough to make that mistake. The "3" key is next the "4" key, and the "April" key is next to the "May" key.
