Canard? (Rumor)

*********************************************
As Governor, in response to the Black Panthers open carry marches:

“Governor Reagan told reporters that afternoon that he saw “no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons.” He called guns a “ridiculous way to solve problems that have to be solved among people of good will.” In a later press conference, Reagan said he didn’t “know of any sportsman who leaves his home with a gun to go out into the field to hunt or for target shooting who carries that gun loaded.” The Mulford Act, he said, “would work no hardship on the honest citizen.”

*********************************************
After he was president:

Feb. 7, 1989

LOS ANGELES (AP) _

Reagan received extended applause when answering a question about over-the- counter military weapons, such as the AK-47 assault rifle used to gun down five Stockton schoolchildren last month.

‘’I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense,’’ he said. ‘’But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.’’

************************************************

The last one sounds a lot like Carson’s statement. But really - you think that Reagan’s support of banning open-carry in California wouldn’t be an issue if FreeRepublic hadn’t been around back in the day?

I’m just saying, we won’t ever find the “perfect” candidate - Reagan wasn’t. And so far, Cruz is #1 in my book, but some will find his support of legal immigration not conservative enough.
