Who Is Donta Allen? Baltimore Man In Custody With Freddie Gray Refutes Police Account
International Business Times ^ | May 01 2015 | Suman Varandani

Posted on 05/02/2015 1:07:52 PM PDT by familyop

Donta Allen, a Baltimore man who was in police custody with Freddie Gray, denied police claims that Gray intentionally slammed his head in a police van, a local television reporter told MSNBC host Chris Hayes on Thursday. Police reportedly claimed that Allen told authorities he heard Gray "banging against the walls" of the van and believed he "was intentionally trying to injure himself."

Allen, who is currently in prison and was listed as a source in a police document, refuted a police account of the night when Gray was taken into custody. He reportedly also denied giving police any information, stating that he did not see Gray in the vehicle because of a barrier dividing the rear of the police van into two sections. He also added that he was being used as a scapegoat by authorities, who failed to provide proper medical assistance to Gray, leading to his death a week later.

“They waited 30 to 35 minutes to get [Gray] some medical attention because they want to cover their a**,” Allen reportedly told Jayne Miller of WBAL-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station in Baltimore. “So now, since they can’t cover their a** on that, they’re trying to use me to cover their a**.”

He also reportedly said that there was no place in the van where “a man can hurt himself.” Gray was reportedly in the van when police arrested Allen, 22, on stealing accusations on April 12.

The report on Gray’s injuries came amid heightened tensions in the United States over the 25-year-old black man’s death after he sustained a traumatic spinal injury in police custody earlier this month. The report indicated that a medical examiner found Gray had fractured three vertebrae when his head slammed violently into the back of the police van, according to WJLA. The report was handed over to prosecutors, who will decide whether to bring charges against the six patrol officers involved in Gray's arrest.

Gray’s death had sparked violence in parts of Baltimore since his funeral on Monday, with more than a dozen buildings and over 100 cars torched, prompting the city to impose a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew from Tuesday through May 4. Activists in New York, Boston, Washington and other cities across the country also rallied earlier this week in solidarity with Baltimore, while Los Angeles, Chicago and Ferguson, Missouri, held protests against police violence.

Reports that I have read said that Allen was picked up on suspicion of stealing a cigarette and released without charge, and this report says he is currently in prison.

I remain confused.

When did he go to prison? Was it recently? Prison is also not the same as jail. Prison is where you go to serve time for convictions, jail is where you go prior to trial on a charge.

These reporters are driving me friggin’ batty.

Okay but I wouldnt have equated getting one name “confused” with another foolish ...particularly when both names just happen to be “colors”

Thank you

Read this article, EXPLOSIVE – The Curious Case Of Freddie Gray’s Paddy Wagon Companion.....

Allen is a plant put out by state attorney's office via Jayne Miller, WBAL reporter. The real witness is 38-year-old man, who is still in jail. Allen was not on the wagon with Freddie Gray.

I definitely read the article from treehouse.

I don’t know if that is the truth or if it is not, but I am aware of the controversy and the details of it now.

But have a look at this:

http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2015/04/30/wjz-exclusive-the-other-man-in-the-van-with-freddie-gray-breaks-his-silence/

Here is a video interview with Allen from April 30, 2015.

He is clearly NOT in prison.

The article in this thread:

http://www.ibtimes.com/who-donta-allen-baltimore-man-custody-freddie-gray-refutes-police-account-what-1904433

is from May 1, 2015. One day later. It says he’s in prison.

Did he go to prison right after his video interview with CBS or something?

The Hell is going on here?

These people cannot seem to get anything straight, and it’s making fackin’ crazy!

HEEELLLLPPPPPPP!!

So where’s Donta Allen? It’s likely that many interested and connected individuals would pay to find out. Know what I mean?

Something more clarifying might come out soon enough.

"Allen, who is currently in prison and was listed as a source in a police document"

According to the article in your thread, he's in prison.

But clearly, he ain't in prison.

familyop, I feel like I am standing in a F5 tornado of lies and BS. I'm not accusing you of lying now, though, don't get me wrong, but it seems like NO ONE, especially reporters, can get any facts straight at all. This entire thing is CROOKED.

The bubble is not between the marks on the level. The entire thing leans to the LEFT! Yes, I am losing my grip!

From the article, Donta Allen was with Gray at that street corner, where Gray was arrested. They both ran in different directions when they saw the police. The police got Allen later and let him go.

Yep, I believe I had read that earlier today in that treehouse article.

Other reports say he was picked up for stealing a cigarette and let go.

This report in this thread says he is currently in prison.

I linked a video from one day before the date of this report that shows him walking on the street being interviewed.

This is MADNESS!

For this confusion, somebody did some investigations.

Allen was never in the wagon with Gray. No record of him being booked that day.

The real witness is currently in prison.

"Pretty soon they’ll have 30 “witnesses” to swear that they had Gray chained to the bumper of the van and they drove all over town dragging him behind the van."

Well, since MSNBC is on the case 30 might be on the light side.

Yep, I saw that. I saw the little picture window with information on arrests and what not. I clicked on it and looked at it.

It really seems like there is something going on here.

The person saying that seems to be two different people here may well be right.

And I can see that various news stories have information that is not adding up, and it looks like they are talking about two different people as if they are the same person.

Just in this article in this thread right here- “Allen, who is currently in prison”... no, he ain’t. It’s quite clear that Allen is not in prison, so who is the person in prison being referred to?

Someone is pulling some legs somewhere...

Yes, in a nut shell, the real witness is in jail. So now the bigger question is why did the Deputy DA tell CNN that Allen is really the guy that was in the van with Gray? Obviously the Deputy DA would have known the real witness is in jail. Also, why would the Deputy DA set her girlfriend reporter up to do an interview with Allen, knowing he is not the 38 year old witness who is still in jail? IT ALL STINKS!

Not really. We really have just two contradicting sets of "facts".

The original Washington Post report is supported by a very thorough Conservative Treehouse investigation.

Contradicting that are the reports from WBAL's Jayne Miller who is apparently the lesbian partner of Janice Bledsoe who is one of the prosectors on the case.

I understand. I’ve really been there (and possibly worse).

Imagine charging someone who is very special to influential constituents in a community. There are demands from a couple of judicial officials to drop the charges. Imagine then patrolling late at night, all by yourself, and seeing a vehicle with no tag. There is a largely printed message showing prominently from the vehicle: a threat against you. On return to the office after the patrol, dispatch, with a nasty sneer, claims that the serial number, make and model returned no information from the system. A few days later, an unsuccessful hit is attempted on you. Then another.

Organized corruption can sometimes present itself to individual victims in weird, flamboyant and generally vain ways. It sometimes has a penchant for drama, and sometimes even strange costumes for the purpose of evoking terror. It sometimes seeks to shock and confuse.

Corrupt public officials do sometimes call for hits. It’s possible from some of the noise that we’re seeing, that there are calls for hits on the witness, Allen. Some people would probably pay to know where he is. See?

People like to know that they’re safe and that they live in a safe world. So much so for many, sometimes, it’s harder for them to believe the truth than a lie.

Another thing... Petty criminals are the most common targets of the most violent crimes. And the more criminals made (e.g. by more laws for many and immunities for others), the more easy it is for the worst of criminals to take from them.

Probably didn’t clarify much here, but I tried.

Also, BTW, there’s a larger move on for municipals, counties and states to grab much more control through changes to the constitution and laws—not to protect themselves from the fed but to more forcefully control their own residents (everyone with no special connections to local governments).
