States Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby said Friday she has probable cause to file criminal charges in the much publicized death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray who died while in police custody.
Six officers, including a lieutenant and a sergeant, have been suspended after the incident. Gray suffered a spinal injury and died after riding in a police transport van that made several stops.
On Thursday, Baltimores police officials said they turned over their initial report to prosecutors a day earlier than expected.

We don’t know what Gray was doing once he was loaded in the van., but the other passenger stated he was thrashing around. I believe these officers were familiar with Gray from his lengthy arrest record, four of which charges included second degree assault. I don’t consider fleeing from the police and making them pick you up and carry you non-resisting. In addition to the previous assault charges, we now know that Gray was high on heroin and that the the officers radioed in that they had an uncooperative prisoner enroute. I have never faced that situation so I don’t think I should judge these officers actions without more information. I think we at least owe these officers the benefit of the doubt until we hear their side of the story.
Since a spring assisted knife is prohibited by a Baltimore City code, I disagree with the prosecutor that the knife was legal. You’ll notice the arrest report mentioned Baltimore law, not Maryland law.
