Obama cites historic gay protests on ‘Loyalty Day’

In what is almost certainly a presidential first, President Obama highlighted an historic gay rights riot as he issued the annual “Loyalty Day” proclamation Thursday.

In the presidential decree, Mr. Obama said it was “the understanding that our Union is a constant work in progress that guided our forebears through places like Seneca Falls, Selma, and Stonewall.”

Stonewall is a reference to riots in New York City in 1969 by the gay community against a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, an event credited with starting the modern fight for LGBT rights in the U.S.

36 U.S. Code § 115 - Loyalty Day

(a) Designation.— May 1 is Loyalty Day.

(b) Purpose.— Loyalty Day is a special day for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom.

(c) Proclamation.— The President is requested to issue a proclamation—

(1) calling on United States Government officials to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on Loyalty Day; and

(2) inviting the people of the United States to observe Loyalty Day with appropriate ceremonies in schools and other suitable places.

Our “forebears”? What happened to the Founding Fathers? He sure skipped forward to cherry pick his favorite liberal causes (well Selma is not a liberal cause, but they try to claim it as their own). What he is revealing is a lack of loyalty to the country as founded and only a call to loyalty for a liberal vision of what he thinks the country should be.

Once again, however, let me point out that the first Republican platform called to get rid of the twin evils of slavery and polygamy. The Dems are not so great on the race issue. They just want to keep blacks dependent on gov’t so that they keep voting Dem.
