Gun control advocates introduced a bill in April that only gun control supporters could love. Connecticut Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro is so serious about getting so-called assault weapons off the street that she is offering $2,000 tax credits for each gun that people turning in limit one per year.
According to her, assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense. There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield.
She believes that offering $2,000 a gun will ensure guns will be turned in. She is correct that people would turn in guns, that is old, non-working guns or guns bought cheaply and then make a profit turning them in. After all, many brand new assault weapons sell for less than $700.
Gaming the gun buyback system has pretty much become standard fare these days. There are also plenty of stories featuring people buying BB guns from a nearby Walmart and turning them in.
A better name for the "Support Assault Firearm Elimination and Education of our (SAFER) Streets Act would be the "Full Employment Act for Gun Makers." . . .

OMG!
I've suggested that if Romney had won the election, we'd already have AWB 2.0. The man is an idiot. Not as much of an idiot as Obama, but an idiot, still.
The .223 Remington cartridge, which evolved from the .222 Remington, really was originally designed as a hunting round.
And here all along I thought that was one of Jeff Dunham’s Dummies.
Imagine my shock when I found out that was a living, breathing thing.
She looks like Keith Richards’ long-lost twin sister.
I actually like her idea! It's like turning in a Honda to the gov't and getting a tax credit to buy a Mercedes, even-steven! (Too bad her idea defies common sense and arithmetic.)
She looks like a psychotic, homeless bag lady.
“To quote the 2012 presidential candidate for the GOP, Mitt Romney: These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.””
Well, a day shooting an AR or Mini-14 is pretty recreational. And even the .223’s have pretty good stopping power for self defense.
I guess the makers just haven’t figured out that I am misusing my assault rifles, which should of course, only be used for “hunting down and killing people.” Perhaps they should require buyers to sign a form promising (1) only to “hunt down and kill people” and not to have any fun doing it and (2) Not to use it in self defense.
That form would at least make the buyers conform to the manufacturer’s real purpose.

If I recall correctly, Ms Delaura is married to Clinton pollster, Stan Greenberg.
I attended a CT college function he spoke at some five years ago, and submitted a written question for him to address during QA.
I asked: “Does the end justifies the means to a pollster when they ask loaded questions to a targetted demographic sample, in order to obtain a pre-ordained answer to manipulate public opinion?”
He didn’t screen the question ahead of time, read it out loud, was taken aback, and unabashedly simply said: “Yes”.
His candor floored me, convincing me once and for all, that democrats, particularly smart, elite ones in power, are simply: shameless Bass turds.
“She looks like Keith Richards long-lost twin sister.”
More like Mr Spock who survived a transporter accident. I am sure she would be happier on Vulcan.
She’s the poster lady for “would make a freight train take a gravel road.”
No, put $100 with it and buy 3 new AR-15’s.
I’m going to have to break out my SCUBA gear. I hear there’s lots and lots of guns at the bottom of the local lakes from all the clumsy boaters.
I can’t hunt anyone down from my wheelchair. But if someone or some gaggle of someones break into my house, they will be met with as much destruction to their persons as I can release through the barrel from as many magazines as I can empty into them. ARs make that work nicely, don’t ya think?
2k? Nice! You could pick up a couple of strip AR lowers and make out like a bandit.
self defense and for recreation. —
Self defense against the Govt, and Re-creation back to it’s original state.
She looks like one of the evil characters from a Harry Potter movie. Where would someone find clothing like that, outside of a Hollywood wardrobe facility?
It is a great rifle, I liked it in the Army and I like it now. To me there is no better rifle for rapidly engaging multiple targets, which for home defense and handling a group, can be invaluable.
Rosa’s closet probably has moths older than us. She has outfits from her flapper days no doubt.
Right. And so. ..
