BALTIMORE A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray banging against the walls of the vehicle and believed that he was intentionally trying to injure himself, according to a police document obtained by The Washington Post.
The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmates safety.
The document, written by a Baltimore police investigator, offers the first glimpse of what might have happened inside the van. It is not clear whether any additional evidence backs up the prisoners version, which is just one piece of a much larger probe.
Gray was found unconscious in the wagon when it arrived at a police station on April 12. The 25-year-old had suffered a spinal injury and died a week later, touching off waves of protests across Baltimore, capped by a riot Monday in which hundreds of angry residents torched buildings, looted stores and pelted police officers with rocks...

Or he was so completely wasted/high he didn’t know any better. People jump off buildings when they’re high. They freak out and head butt things when they have the DTs. There’s any number of things this guy could have been doing.
Stupid thug. He didn’t mean to off himself, he just wanted to look like he had been beaten up by police.
I wish they would all to this to themselves.
Having watched many episodes of "World's Dumbest Partiers" and "World's Dumbest Criminals," I can confirm this.
will be interesting to see what kind of “foreign substance” he had in his system....not that it will matter to the rioters and the race baitors.
He was “putting on his makeup” for his booking photo. He just misjudged the amount of bruising that would allow him to cash in.
He was a felon, and graduate of the prison system, he know how to work brutality lawsuits.
Contrary to popular belief it’s not that hard to break your neck.
I’ve worked around people that cracked their necks when they raised up and hit their heads.
A hard hat might keep you from knocking your brains out but if your neck is bent wrong when you hit it can crack/break your neck.
The poor bastard thought he was headed for a 7 figure payout from the city and lost his life in the process.
This story might have been given a little more serious consideration if the authorities released it sooner.
And a timely release of information might have helped avoid the rioting, arson and looting that followed.
The original incident took place on April 12 and Freddie Gray died on April 19.
Five officers were suspended on April 21.
Why did it talk 10 days after his death to release this information?
The reasons for the delay are just as important as the story itself - maybe moreso at this juncture.
Time to throw Freddie under the bus and move on in search of the next riot they can inspire.
Yep. They burned down the stores. Now they can get back to wailing about "food deserts".
I want to see the drug panel form the autopsy....I bet he was high on PCP.
Mark Levin says this is all a RAT ploy to create a race war in the minds of blacks in order to get them to the polls.
Now the report that was due out tomorrow to the public will NOT be made public. I wonder if this is to give officials time to prepare for the almost-certain onslaught of more looting and stealing? Just sayin’......
More than likely he was doing one thing, performing a "self tune-up" to bolster his excessive force civil suit against the police.
I doubt seriously the police broke his neck.
I’ve never seen anyone right after a neck injury screaming and flopping around, they are for the most part stunned, disoriented, and almost unable to move.
It’s not a complete knockout/blackout but close to it.
Someone needs to photoshop "Felony Fred's" mugshot onto the image above.
The truth about Freddie Gray's 'pre-existing injury from car accident'
Curious to know what kind of deal this witness made for his statement.
