CSI Refugee Center Expects Influx of Syrians

TWIN FALLS • The College of Southern Idaho’s Refugee Center is expecting an influx of Syrian refugees starting in October. Projections show the center will likely receive 300 refugees from around the world during the upcoming federal fiscal year. That’s the same number as this year.

Refugee Center director Zeze Rwasama anticipates the biggest populations of newcomers will be from Syria and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“That can change at any time depending on what’s out there,” he said. The U.S. Department of State approves the number of refugees coming to Twin Falls.

There aren’t any Syrians in Twin Falls yet, Rwasama said, but the Refugee Center is prepared for the influx. “We’re not anticipating any challenges.”

Worldwide, aid groups are calling on the United States to do more to help Syrians displaced by a five-year civil war.

The war has claimed the lives of more than 220,000 people and driven some 9 million of the prewar population of 23 million from their homes. Of those, more than 3.8 million have fled to neighboring countries.

To date, the U.S. has resettled just 648 Syrians.

Graduated from Twin Falls High in 1965, and have returned to Twin over the years. I have been here the past few years, taking care of my parents.

As I see it, the 300 refugees will automatically go on Public Assistance, probably won't try to assimilate, and will not contribute to the future of the community.

But its a done deal and the community has little input into the process.

Many have been misled by propaganda from Russia and Italy about them. They're extremely anti-Israel and anti-American in both Syria and Lebanon.

Population in Twin Falls is about 45K -- with another 150K in the Magic Valley -- although the Magic Valley is about 130 miles by 80 miles. (Population doesn't include all the cows in the valley!)

Probably won't have to raise taxes much, since the Federal government is picking up the tab -- although the State will need to handle increased services costs.

Education costs/standards are not determined at this time because we don't know the mix of parent/child in the bunch.

That's because the American people are unwilling to rise up and throw off the oppressor. Every day Obama expands the invasion in a thousand different ways. By the end of his term how many invaders will have been brought to the US or encouraged across the Mexican border? And how many of them will be naturalized and registered to vote whether naturalized or not? The Left never intends to lose power again and they would rather rule in the hell of a collapsed US than serve in the US as it was before Obama.
