So the future is creating games to mindlessly entertain morons? You have a better chance of becoming a big league ball player than making it big time in computer games.
The highest paid graduate last year had a degree in petroleum engineering. Will always be needed. Won’t go out of fashion like some game. Skill set transferable.

I think you’re missing the point. It’s not about the thing you code (the game), it’s that you can do all those things that go into being a coder. That is also quite the transferable skillset.
I suspect that coding is very useful to petroleum engineers.
It was to me when I got my Masters in mining engineering..
The basic skills required to create games are the same ones to be a successful software engineer.
I wrote my first game in high school stored on punch tape.
It takes decades to train a good software engineer and starting children out early can make all the difference.
Right now, finding good software engineers who are NOT working is almost impossible.
