As matter of law, they're right. These officers will likely be indicted for criminally negligent homicide (at minimum). They failed to follow procedure by not properly restraining the decedent. Death followed.
It doesn't matter that the Gray was a criminal, that he had 18 prior arrests or that he allegedly had spinal surgery a week before. Gray is your typical "eggshell plaintiff." Once in police custody, the cops had a duty to keep him safe. He should have been secured in the van. Period.
None of that excuses the vermin in Baltimore looting and destroying their town. Justice will eventually be served in this case. These idiots running amok around town also need to be dealt with criminally.
