The University of Maryland, Baltimore and numerous downtown businesses closed early Monday, citing concerns about potentially violent activity in the area.
Lexington Market, a city courthouse and businesses including T. Rowe Price and Venable LLP said police warned them of large gatherings and protests downtown.
According to widely circulated flier, a high school "purge" was to take place at 3 p.m., starting at Mondawmin and ending downtown.
Such memes have been known to circulate regularly, but today's has led to bolstered police presence around the city.
The flier includes an image of protesters smashing the windshield of a police car this past weekend after a march spurred by the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who died earlier this month after being arrested by city police, turned violent and destructive.
A post on the University of Maryland Baltimore's website said that the closure was prompted by a recommendation from city police. The campus will also stop shuttle service.

I liked them. The one that takes place on the streets was better. But yes, they are fairly typical, not the best quality in filming or actors, but I still enjoyed watching them.

I saw the video of the guy cutting the fire hose—he had a gas mask on. (like the one in the image).
Of all the photos and videos this one has taught people more than any other....unfortunately I won’t hold out they will learn.....they seem to be beyond understanding the obvious today.
Unfortunately even if the leadership is black....the same black on black crime that is in the streets also is in their politics among the Gov. leaders. .....if they have not learned how to handle and “discuss” in the streets, and most haven’t.....then they won’t in Government positions either when they are pitted against one another.
Detroit and Phila. are no better for the black leadership they have...and now Baltimore is gone that direction as well. The few rare individuals who know the difference are vastly few and far in between....instead they give a hands up to inexperienced and or those who have no background in governing to their “friends” in order for them to succeed too...but at the cost of the communities for they don’t know what they are doing.
Show me one single Black community that is better by having individuals such as these lead their communities. Even the Pres. and wife could not leave the hood behind them as we have seen time and again.

Yes indeed...rural living in small communities is great...though I’m really in a larger community it has the country feel.
The town you grew up in was much much smaller than here. But while raising kids we lived in a community like that....but the larger community was just three miles from there.
I think some of the cities are trying to create that “community feel” in the suburbs where they have gated communites yet with closeness to the major city life they enjoy....But it is not at all the same or even close.
That wouldn’t happen....she will survive the criticism because she’s in the elitist loop....and they protect their own. Hillary comes to mind.
