It’s “in the minority” because it is demonstrably wrong. Senator Cruz’s father is a hard shell Baptist preacher and Ted was brought up in the church. What would he have to do to show you that he was “more evangelical?” If being for the constitution and against statism and tyranny is “Libertarianism” then I guess we’re all libertarians here. But I don’t think that’s what it means.
“Libertarian” has a pretty nasty stigma to it. But like everything there are various degrees to it that vary based on individual, and there are points of intersection with Conservatism.
Ted Cruz is a Fiscal Conservative (which is an element that both mainline Conservatism and Libertarianism share) and very pro-Israel. So it’s no surprise that two strongly pro-Israel Jewish businessmen who happen to be gay find themselves in some alignment with him and decide to host him on that basis.
Apparently Silicon Valley libertarians are pretty excited about Ted.
Time will tell, but I’ve been here and got the T-shirt.
