An adventuresome Google executive who once dated TV star Sophia Bush met a harrowing death on Mount Everest in a a series of valanches triggered by Saturdays giant earthquake.
Dan Fredinburg, of San Francisco, was the only American confirmed by Saturday night to have died in the tragedy.
He died from head injuries when the avalanche slammed into his base camp, according to family members and a statement from Jagged Globe, the mountaineering company that organized his summit attempt.
Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend, said Bush, who starred from 2003 to 2012 in The CW network show One Tree Hill.
Feinberg also helped start Save the Ice, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about global warming through adventurous campaigns and events around the world, according to its website.

Per Twitter, Base Camps 1 and two were “Destroyed”. Many Sherpas left, heading down the mountain to find their own families.
Sounds like a real cluster.

The loss of life all around is sad and tears families apart. By in large, the people affected are strong family oriented and hard working. They just live in a part of the world where landslides and earthquakes are common and deadly. Our prayers even as most are Hindu, Buddhist and other.

Twitpic from an Indian Student who was at the base camp when the avalanche hit. He tweeted four photos, the other three show the devastation.

Look at all the crap strewn all over. Sounds like Mother Gaia lost it.

That’s an amazing pic.
Bad timing - this hits just when everybody is there for the climbing season.
I just finished the book by Jamling Tenzing Norgay (son of the guy who climbed Everst with Hillary). Highly recommended.

Karma overdose I would say.....the organizing company’s name Jagged Globe is also one which would give one a pause before using their service.

Save the Ice, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about global warming through adventurous campaigns and events around the world, Call me cynical, but something tells me that "charity" scam was paying for his trip to Everest.

Fredinburg headed the privacy team for Google X, a semi-secret research lab that develops new Google products. Three other Google employees accompanying him on the expedition were safe, the company said.

Some pointed out that she’s a ‘rich’ widow. I don’t know the truth of that, but I do know that not having a dad is bad for kids.

"Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer is a genuinely frightening account of a disastrous 1997 Everest expedition. That mountain has many ways to kill people.
As for this thread... Celebrating death is ugly.

Good for the Sherpas for going on strike. Native peoples often know a lot more about local conditions than heads up their fundaments know it all ambitious foreigners.
