An avalanche triggered by a deadly earthquake in Nepal on Saturday buried a part of the base camp for climbers bound for Mount Everest, killing at least eight people, Nepal's tourism ministry said.
"The toll could go up, it may include foreigners as well as sherpas," tourism official Gyanendra Shrestha said.

Our dining tent here at basecamp has now been turned into a small hospital. Our basecamp manager - Nigma - is also a doctor, and he has already attended to casualties in other camps, among others: head injuries and fractures

BREAKING NEWS: earthquake near Everest was very strong and we could feel the earth shaking a lot, and then a huge avalanche swept over basecamp and Jelle and I had to run for our life but I did not reach the tents and I had to hide behind the the stone puja ... I could not see anything and it was hard to breath. Our camp is at the end of basecamp which is like a small city with almost 500 tents, I am sure there are casualties, and we fear for an Indian group we met that were heading up the ice fall.

Former Marine and staff sergeant, Charlie Linville, is in Nepal, about to make his way to Tibet for his second attempt at climbing Mount Everest. Linvilles first attempt took place in April of last year; he was located at the base camp of Mt. Everest at 17,595 feet when the climb was canceled due to the avalanche that tragically killed 16 Sherpa guides.

In 2011, Charlie Linville, explosive expert, was injured by an IED blast in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. While attempting to investigate the blast injuries of a colleague, Linville was hit by another IED and lost two fingers. He later had to have the lower portion of his leg amputated.
