MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Democrats say they'll keep trying to require criminal background checks for virtually all gun sales -- including those at gun shows, and private sales outside of gun shops.
Republicans struck down the idea at both the state and federal levels over the last two years.
On Tuesday, Milwaukee Senate Democrat Nikiya Harris Dodd tried but failed to add the expanded background checks to a Republican bill which ends the 48-hour waiting period to buy guns. That measure was okayed by the Senate without amendments, and was sent to the Assembly.

Universal background checks before being allowed to vote?
The Constitution keeps getting in the way of imposing a communist system on the American people (with Democrats in charge, of course) - especially that pesky 2nd Amendment....
"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense." |
The Dims are terrified by the thought that the people have the means to resist them.

no matter what they may want, ,,, this is America where ...” The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed “
The Democrats have found what they think is one of the few gun control efforts that uninformed people will support, so they will bang the drum incessantly.
Importantly, the way to beat them is not just to keep a static defense against background checks, but by counterattacking them with a related subject where they have had considerable success, but only have weak defenses.
Capital punishment.
Oddly enough, gun liberty is linked with capital punishment in many ways, and by making a major push for more and faster capital punishment, it will hit “the flank” of the gun control movement.
The most effective attack right now will muster support from the gun liberty alliance with police. That is a return to a guarantee that anyone who murders a police officer will at least *face* a death penalty, with no plea bargain or judicial intervention for a lesser sentence.
That is, if someone murders a cop, they *will* face a jury of their peers that will determine if they are guilty and determine if they will get a death sentence. No gimmicks for them to just get life in prison before the trial.
Nothing about this is unfair. If a jury decides they are not guilty, so be it. If a jury decides to give them life instead of death, fine. But it *will* be the jury’s decision, not that of a meeching prosecutor or a liberal judge.
The next step is federal judicial reform to stop federal judges from just whimsically overturning death penalties, because they don’t *like* the death penalty. This reform can’t really happen until conservatives are chairmen of the house and senate judiciary committees.
But those conservatives need to know that this reform is needed. No condemned prisoner should be on death row for more than five years before being turned off. Which is plenty fair and just.
Not only is there that pesky second amendment. The Supreme Court has in many cases interpreted the Constitution to provide a “right to privacy”. Certainly a background check (i.e a state investigation) is unwarranted without probable cause. A citizen exercising an action protected by the Constitution does not constitute “probable cause”.
Right on! We know they’re NOT doing universal background checks on all those millions of illegals being imported into our lives? SOBs!
How about universal criminal background checks for Wisconsin Democrats?
That should clean out the state legislature.
Cool. Let's have them apply to voters and political candidates as well.
