Heck if he did that then at least I know it would be considered leave or vacation but if he was paid for not fulfilling his job then that is a problem.

It's only a problem if the job isn't done. In this case, Cruz participated in the cloture vote, which is what mattered. He's a bright enough man to understand that. I suspect you are, as well.
