Sitting between a billionaire Republican donor and a TV news titan at the ultimate party for influencers, I picked up a few political tips. And I met some of the most powerful women in the universe.
My hat goes off to Nancy Gibbs and her colleagues at TIME, who managed to assemble the most eclectic group of influential people one can imagine last night in New York City as part of their celebration of this years TIME 100.
I found myself sandwiched between billionaire David Koch and Fox News anchor Bill OReilly while watching Tim McGraw perform in a tuxedo with a vista of Central Park as his backdrop. Koch gave me his very favorable critique of Scott Walker as a presidential candidate, after the Wisconsin governors visit to New York this week. (You won him over on education, governor!) OReilly barely gave me the time of day.
Among the Fortune Most Powerful Women in the room of roughly 300 guests: Katie Couric, Arianna Huffington, Mellody Hobson, Diane von Furstenberg and Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes, whom we profiled in a Fortune cover story last year. Also, Faith Hill, Tim and Faiths three attractive daughters, and Lee Daniels mother. And now a confession: I left before Kanye West performed.
the TIME 100 is a list of sad sacks reflecting the sorryass state of this oountry from a sorryass msm pravda machine that isnt worth wrapping dead fish in... but sets itself up as the dispenser of wisdom to the mentally lame... teh 100 a conglomoration of media hyped superficial azzholes...
Thank you for stating the obvious.
It’s the Koch news re Walker that I was highlighting.
I like Walker, because like Palin he is a governor that actually acted and implemented reforms to save the budget
It’s a big A+++
I’m still amazed that anyone lists The Perky One, Katie Couric, among “the most powerful women in the world,” or continues to offer her seven-figure gigs.
She was the queen of media when she left the Today show, but since then, her career has been a dumpster fire. Absolute failure during five years anchoring the CBS Evening News; followed that debacle with an afternoon talk show, and a huge contract from Disney/ABC. Her attempt at being the next Oprah lasted less than two years. Now, she’s some sort of global correspondent for Yahoo News, collecting another massive paycheck, but delivering nothing in return.
If any FReepers have misguided children who are pursuing a career in the MSM, you should offer this advice: it no longer matters if you have any talent to get hired by a liberal print, broadcast, cable or on-line outlet. Just suck up to the right people and keep kissing their backsides. You can make a lot of money, and if you’re lucky enough (like Katie and David Letterman) you can make a career out of it. The downside is you’re flushing your integrity and honor in the process, and a lot of these outlets are going to disappear, sooner rather than later.
