Since Massachusetts was one of the first states to abolish slavery, it’s easy to forget that there were slaves in Massachusetts at one time. (The most famous of them may be the poet Phillis Wheatley.) In addition, the slaves had to sit in a segregated section of the stadium when they attended Patriots games.

I think a black guy died in the "Boston Massacre".

As for slaves, I think Garry Trudeau's "Doonesbury" did a Bicentennial era thread on a Massachusettsan neglecting to tell his slave that slavery was abolished.

Must have come across some anti Harvard/Cambridge stuff that included Affleck's ancestors while at studying at Yale.

Didn't the shipping industry in Massachusetts thrive by being involved in the importing of slaves?
