When someone goes undercover, to some degree, he or she has to act like a bad guy. I can understand stopping short of murder or extreme violence or rape but bad guys are going to do drugs and have wild parties. In order to maintain their cover, the agents are going to have to do some of that stuff themselves.
So you're suggesting the agents must also do drugs to maintain their covert status?

If there is some action which the bad guys know that undercover cops won't do, it won't be too hard to figure out who is an undercover cop. Undercover cops are typically going to be involved with some illegal activity in order to catch bigger criminals. The question is where to draw the "do not cross" line.

Yes. Some gangs are impossible to infiltrate because the price of admission is to commit a witnessed murder. Or so I have heard.
