Finally a few more folks showed up, no one we knew, and the plane landed and we waited, and he finally got off the plane with Pat beside him. They looked made up and tired. He spoke for about 15 minutes or less, gave us the big wave and disappeared into the plane. They shut the door and the plane taxied down the runway and took off. We went back to the car and turned on the radio. The reporter said that he had been there and had left and that was the only thing that reporter said that was the truth.
I was there. I listened to every word. He said nothing that the reported said that he had said.
I went home totally disillusioned about my world. Talking to my Dad, calmed me a little. Dad said the reported probably wasn't even there and had been handed a press release that was vague and general.
Thank Heaven for Free Republic otherwise I'd still be disillusioned. Thank you Jim Robinson. Sorry my measly donation isn't more.
I saw Kennedy give a very short speech in La Crosse, Wisc. the same year. My parents were strong Democrats. His plane stopped at the La Crosse airport. There was a dais for Kennedy to speak right next to his plane. He spoke for about one half hour or less and then went back on the plane and took off. I don't remember a thing he said. But I was only ten at the time.
The crowd was fairly large, and my family and I were about one hundred yards away. My mother took some pictures, but I don't know what happened to them.
Nixon gave a speech in La Crosse as well, but he did a motorcade thing and gave a speech in downtown La Crosse.
It is amazing to see the difference between what is reported and an actual event. Hillary’s bus tour during the HillaryCare debacle in 1994 was similarly controlled so no one but those vetted even came close. She made a stop nearby in Ohio in ‘94 - I took my family to join hundreds of protestors who were kept at bay - the event was at a local union hall and the local police union would not let any protestors on the street - everyone had to stay off the property and, as I recall, the union thugs put a string line right down the property line with the business next door - who welcomed the protestors (a furniture store that was closed on Sundays - the day of the visit). The union hall parking lot had a few cars in it - probably less than a hundred people inside to welcome her bus. They pulled up and you couldn’t really see them. There were literally hundreds of protestors, far outnumbering any supporters. The local paper of course showed a picture of one little girl holding a sign appearing to be alone.
That was 1994 - I don’t recall having a camera to take pictures - no way to get the real story out. At least HillaryCare failed - then. This event seems to follow the same formula - limited and vetted people at the event and her van shows up with no opportunity for real people to actually participate (and protest).
This year can be far different - key will be for people to take pictures like here - show how out of touch she really is - the cocoon she surrounds herself in to avoid any criticism really reaching her, or embarrassing her if recorded and publicized. Everyone has a cell phone that can take pictures and videos - and social media at least to get the word out.
