Authorities in South Carolina have released dash cam video in connection with the fatal shooting of Walter Scott, but the footage does not show the actual shooting.

Video from the patrol car of North Charleston's Michael Slager shows an initial traffic stop and early interactions between the officer and Scott.

Slager approaches Scott's vehicle. The two men speak. Scott tells the officer he does not have insurance and is in the process of purchasing the vehicle. Slager then returns to his patrol car.

Scott exits his vehicle, briefly, and Slager tells him to stay in the car. Scott then gets out of the car, again, and runs away, out of the range of the dash cam.

I think the video does count as actual evidence. Not the only evidence, certainly, but it is evidence.

Obviously you’re not versed in recent Freeper tradition. These days, we view a clip that depicts part of an incident, invent our own context, the pronounce judgment, all within moments. Sometimes I think we’re in a snap-judgment contest with the ACLU. You shoulda been here for Ferguson, there were people who actually believed that “hands up, don’t shoot” fraud.

Think through this with me for a moment... the guy was driving a car that wasn’t his, so running the license plate wouldn’t have turned up the warrant. Slager had most likely input the DL data once he got it, but he hadn’t yet requested a backup, which is routinely done when a warrant turns up. So, that’s one possible indication.

Second, and more significant, is that there’s no “one crime per dude” rule. As Scott’s arm-length arrest record shows, those who take a casual view of the law frequently violate more than one provision. In my neighborhood, gang bangers busted for crimes of violence frequently also have spousal abuse and TRO violation wants and multiple driving and drug offenses. So even if Slager knew that particular warrant was for contempt, he wouldn’t have known it was the only thing Scott had done. What he did know is that the guy who gave him a squirrely story for why he was driving somebody else’s car foot bailed as soon as Slager started to check his record.

Yep...the justification of the use of deadly force is the IMMINENT threat of great bodily harm or death. That clearly was not the case here.

Throw in the fact that the officer moved the taser from where it actually was after the physical altercation to right next to the perp laying on the ground after he was shot(tampering with evidence) shows the cop deliberately ignored his training and sought to cover up his actions.

This cop needs to fry.

He owes $18K of child support, there's a bench warrant for him, he's got a pregnant wife, he's driving a car he doesn't own, and best of all, just as in the Ferguson fiasco, there was a rush to judgment against the officer.

Would be to much to expect the cop might chase him instead of just blasting.....

Eating all those doughnuts tend to slow them down a bit.

But not premeditated murder, maybe murder in the second degree... Maybe yes, maybe no about the charge, but from what I saw, officer Slager did not just blindly blaze away as you might find in one fearful from an iminent attack. He demonstrated a had a very good stance, and was taking his time for well placed shots. It was very similar to watching a shooter taking his time punching paper targets at the range.

Slager definitely wanted to put the guy down while he was running away. You or I would fry for this!

I agree, only point I am trying to make is when you run away from a psycho cop ( and at least half of them are psycho’s), you stand an excellent chance of being shot in the back.

So maybe blacks, whites, and persons of every other race should learn a lesson from this incident.

Don’t make any sudden moves, and comply with instructions.
