Ferguson Elects 2 Blacks to City Council, but Rejects Activist Candidates

FERGUSON, Mo. — In the first municipal election here since a black teenager was shot to death by a white police officer last year, voters elected two black candidates to the City Council on Tuesday, increasing the number of African-Americans on the governing body to three.

But in a blow to the protesters who had pushed for sweeping changes to the city’s law enforcement and judicial policies after the shooting last August, voters rejected several candidates who had the direct backing of protest activists.

The results would seem to suggest a smoother road for the current Council as it will not have to battle insurgents while it navigates a critical phase in addressing the fallout from the police killing last year and a scathing Department of Justice report last month. But they also raise questions of whether the new Council will come into conflict with the activists and demonstrators who pushed for major changes in the way the city does business.

The "left" constantly marginalizes people by referencing them by classes such as: color, gender, sexual identity, political affiliation, etc.

They just can't look at their ideas or character of the individual, as do we conservatives.

What hypocrites.

Apparently, cooler heads have prevailed.

We’ll see how long this lasts...

IOW, there are WHITE VOTERS too.

I would also suggest that the majority of black voters are rational people, who don't want their town further terrorized by radicals.

IMHO.

“I would also suggest that the majority of black voters are rational people...”

That’s hilarious! Thanks for the laugh to start the day.

Rejects activists?
Too bad, it’s been a circus there up to now.
Adding a few “activist” to the official mix could have added to the disfunction.
Bet you couldn’t get a box of rocks for your home or bid ness there at this point.

Not so outlandish; “black voters” excludes felons.

You are correct, sir. Not only are the majority of the black voters in Ferguson rational people, there are many rational white voters here who are judging people by the content of their characters rather than the color of their skin.

Just to make this election even more delicious, there were candidates supported by both the radical who attempted to destroy the town and the Democratic Party machine (I know, what's the difference). All of the radical supported candidates lost, and the winners are all decent and respectable people who had shown an interest in serving the city before Ferguson became a household term. We will be the template showing how a city can recover from the outrageous assault we have suffered from radicals, criminals, community organizers and politicians.

Please pray that the leaders and responsible citizens of Ferguson will make wise decisions.
