At this point, the Constitution is virtually a dead letter, and the final nail in the coffin will be the upcoming declaration of gay marriage as a constitutional right. All that will remain of the Constitution will be the procedural formalities governing federal elections. And some day, progressives may claim that we have “evolved” beyond even THOSE formalities.
The erection of monumental buildings in Washington, D.C., was a big mistake, because the vast majority of people attribute the government’s legitimacy to the fact that it is housed in impressive buildings.
After Roe v. Wade, the USSC building should have been leveled, and the lot turned into a parking lot. The Court should have been assigned some offices in Southeast Washington, with dropped ceilings and buzzing fluorescent lights.
If it is necessary to tear down the White House, and put the President in a hotel, in order to put the Presidency back in its place, I say, DO IT!
